It is important to have your water tested for contaminants.  While some contaminants will alter the odor, taste and color of water, other contaminants are odorless, tasteless and colorless and can only be detected by laboratory testing.  Unhealthy levels of various contaminants are common in private wells.  If you have a private well, it is strongly recommended that you have your water periodically tested by a state-certified drinking water laboratory.
